My netbook reflection 2013: Jacob

This year I have found using my netbook to be successful. I have enjoyed using my netbook because...........
I have an individual blog. I can publish work on to my blog and put pictures, presentations, graphs and drawings.  I have 2474  pageviews on my blog. Before we can put our work on the blog the teacher has to check it for any mistakes from the teacher dashboard.

Another thing that I have enjoyed is........
It allows me to be a critical thinker by commenting on other schools blogs, class blogs and peoples individual blogs. The teacher can give me on going feedback because it helps us with our writing, reading, numeracy.

The barriers in using my netbook are.........
Flash problems and connectivity issues. I always go on Maths whizz but sometimes their is flash problems where I can’t get in to it or if half of the class goes on Maths whizz before me it is slow and it takes 10 - 20 minutes to get on.

Another barrier is.........
That sometimes my netbook won’t turn on if the battery is low or somebody drops it. The screen might crack and we might forget your passwords so the teacher or someone has to reset the password or reimage the netbook with a USB stick and that gets annoying.

The interesting aspects / parts to using my netbook are.........
Using different research sites for topic like celebrations and festivals. We can do our homework online by the click of a button because we can go onto the class google site that the teacher updates. The teacher tells us what sites we can go on or if she doesn’t people just go onto the class google site and go on fun Maths sites or fun Reading sites.

My narrative on bullying: Jacob

The boy who got bullied

Five years ago there lived a boy named Greg.
Greg was twelve years old. Greg was very tall, very strong and fast. People would say he might be as fast as Usain Bolt. His family was poor and his uniform was ripped. He was always getting bullied at a school called Panmure Bridge by this boy named Chris. Chris was fourteen. Chris was the school bully with his mates David, Frank and Shayne. Greg had no friends and he tried and tried to make friends but Chris wouldn’t let him. Everyday Greg either had a blood nose, Black eye or a bleeding lip. When got bullied he felt very sad and he wasn’t going to fight them back.

Greg decided to join the school rugby league team. Luckily to join the team was for free. Chris and his friends saw the Greg joined the rugby league team so they wanted to join too. Greg was the fullback of his team and the fastest in his team. Chris and his friends started bullying him because he scored the most tries. Chris and his friends shouted at Greg and said, “Don’t score any more tries and always pass the ball to us so we can score tries or else we will send you home crying everyday or send you to hospital”. Greg didn’t listen to them.

Gregs team was in the finals and his team said “Luckily we have Greg in our team or else we wouldn’t be in the finals”. Two days before the finals Chris and his friends dislocated Greg’s shoulder and he couldn’t play in the finals. Frank said “Don’t bother coming to the finals”. Shayne shouted, “You better not tell anyone about this or we will.....”. Chris quickly growled, “DON’T TELL HIM WHAT WE ARE GOING TO DO TO HIM, THAT WILL BE A SURPRISE”!!!!! Greg was angry at them when they ran away. He ran to somebody and asked them to take him to the hospital but no one wanted too then... he saw this man he was very kind and took Greg to the hospital. While they were going to the hospital Greg asked the man “What is your name?” “My name is Mike” said the man. “What do you do for a living?” asked Greg. “I do Brazilian jiu jitsu and I am a christian, when I fight I pray to keep me safe and give guidance” said Mike. Mike told Greg that he will pay the bill to help Greg’s shoulder to move back in position.

The big final was here and Greg so wanted to play and help his team win. He took of his cast and pushed his shoulder back into place, he ran as fast as Yohan Blake to get to the league field. He put his uniform on and won the grand final for his team. Greg paid Mike to intimidate Chris and tell him to be Greg’s friend so Chris was Greg’s friend and they lived the rest of their lives being friends.

The three little pigs story: Jacob

The three little pigs

Ten years ago on a hot sunny day, there were three little pigs. Their mother said “You guys are getting older now and I’m getting too old look after you guys. Now go and build your own houses”. So they set off on a journey to find some things to build their houses.

The first little pig built a house out of hay. The second little pig built a house out of wood. The third pig was the smartest out of all three of them so he built his house out of bricks.

Then a big bad wolf came and saw the house of hay, he looked in the window and he said, “Little pig, little pig let me in”.
The pig said, “Not by the hair on my chinny-chin-chin I will not let you in”.
The wolf said, “Then I’ll huff and I’ll puff and I will blow your house down”. The big bad wolf blew the first little pigs house down. The first little pig hurried to the second little pigs house and said “Let me in, let me in, a big bad wolf is chasing me, lock the door”.

“Little pigs, little pigs let me in”. “Not by the hair on our chinny-chin-chins”. “Then I’ll huff and I’ll puff and blow your house down with all my might”, so he did. The two little pigs went to the third little pigs house and asked him to let them in. They cried “There is a wolf behind us and he wants to cook us for dinner”.

The third little pig locked the door.
“Little pigs, little pigs let me in”. “Not by the hair on our chinny-chin-chins”. “Then I’ll huff and I’ll puff and I’ll huff and I’ll puff and blow your house down. But the wolf couldn’t blow the brick house down, so he had an idea to go down the chimney. The pigs were expecting him so they built a fire. The wolf climbed onto the roof of the brick house and climbed down the chimney.  The big bad wolf slipped and fell into the fire, “owww”! he said. “Get me some ice cold water”. Then quickly climbed back up the chimney and left the pigs alone. The three little pigs lived happily ever after.

My report on Neil Armstrong: Jacob

Neil Armstrong

Neil Armstrong was the first man to walk on the moon. He made everybody believe that anyone could go to the moon.

Neil Armstrong was born on the 5th of August 1930 Wapakoneta, Ohio. His parents were Stephen Koenig Armstrong and Viola Louis Engel. His father worked as an auditor for the Ohio state government. On July 20, 1936, he experienced his first airplane flight in Warren, Ohio, when he and his father took a ride in a Ford Trimotor.

His father's last move was to Wapakoneta (Auglaize County) in 1944, where Neil attended Blume High School. He went to Purdue University, the University of Southern California. Neil began taking flying lessons at the county airport, and was just 15 when he earned his flight certificate, before he had a driver's license. He was active in the Boy Scouts and he eventually earned the rank of Eagle Scout. As an adult, he was recognized by the Boy Scouts of America with its Distinguished Eagle Scout Award and Silver Buffalo Award. In 1947, Armstrong began studying aerospace engineering at Purdue University, where he was a member of Phi Delta Theta and Kappa Kappa Psi. He was only the second person in his family to attend college, and was also accepted to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

Neil’s call-up from the Navy arrived on January 26, 1949, requiring him to report to Naval Air Station Pensacola for flight training. This lasted almost 18 months, during which he qualified for carrier landing aboard the USS Cabot and USS Wright. On August 16, 1950, two weeks after his 20th birthday, Armstrong was informed by letter he was a fully qualified Naval Aviator. His first assignment was to Fleet Aircraft Service Squadron 7 at NAS San Diego (now known as NAS North Island). Two months later he was assigned to Fighter Squadron 51 (VF-51), an all-jet squadron, and made his first flight in a jet, an F9F-2B Panther. Armstrong first saw action in the Korean War on August 29, 1951, as an escort for a photo reconnaissance plane over Songjin. On September 3, 1951, Armstrong flew armed reconnaissance over the primary transportation and storage facilities south of the village of Majon-ni, west of Wonsan.

He married Carol held Knight. He also married Janet Elizabeth Shearon on January 28, 1956, at the Congregational Church in Wilmette, Illinois. They had three children, Eric, Mark and Karen Armstrong.  In June 1961, daughter Karen was diagnosed with a malignant tumor of the middle part of her brain stem; X-ray treatment slowed its growth, but her health deteriorated to the point where she could no longer walk or talk. Karen died of pneumonia, related to her weakened health, on January 28, 1962.

There was no defining moment in Armstrong's decision to become an astronaut. In 1958, he was selected for the U.S. Air Force's Man In Space Soonest program.  In November 1960, Armstrong was chosen as part of the pilot consultant group for the Boeing X-20 Dyna-Soar, a military space plane, and on March 15, 1962, he was named as one of six pilot-engineers who would fly the space plane when it got off the design board. A March 1969 meeting between Slayton, George Low, Bob Gilruth, and Chris Kraft determined that Armstrong would be the first person on the Moon, in some part because NASA management saw Armstrong as a person who did not have a large ego. On July 16, 1969, Armstrong received a crescent moon carved out of Styrofoam from the pad leader, Guenter Wendt, who described it as a key to the Moon. In return, Armstrong gave Wendt a ticket for a "space taxi" "good between two planets". The mission took 8 days, 14 hours, 12 mins and 30 secs. When he landed on the moon he said the eagle has landed. When he walked on the moon he said one small step for man and one giant leap for mankind.

Neil died August 25, 2012 (aged 82) Cincinnati, Ohio, U.S. and was most famous for the words that he said on the moon.

Easy maths: Jacob

Easy maths

1. 10 times tables: I work out  my 10x table by adding a 0 at the end of the number.
For example:
3 x 10 = 3 + a 0 on the end = 30
659 x 10 = 659 + a 0 on the end = 6590

2. 11 times tables: I work out my 11x table by adding the same number at the end if it is in the units. Greater than 10.
For example:
6 x 11 = 6 + the same number at the end = 66
111 x 11 = Greater than 10 = 1221

3. 5 times table: I work out my 5 x tables by halving the even number then adding a 0. If it is an odd number halve it then take out the decimal.
For example:
6 x 5 = Halve the 6 = 3 + a 0 = 30
9 x 5 = Halve the 9 = 4.5 - the decimal = 45

4. 0 Times tables: If it is 0 x something it is always 0.
For example:
0 x 9 = 0
0 x 156 = 0

5. 6 Times tables: 5 x plus.
For example:
6 x 8 = 5 x plus = 48
6 x 359 = 5 x plus = 2154

6. 9 Times tables:
1. 10 x minus the number.
For example:
9 x 3 = 10 x 3 (30) -3 = 27
9 x 578 = 10 x 578 (5780) -578 = 5202
2. Breaking up.
Break up #’s into times tables I know.
For example:
13 x 9 =
10 x 9 = 90
3 x 9 = 27
        = 107
3. Count in 9’s.
For example: 9 , 18 , 27 …......

7. 12 Times Tables: 10 x plus double the number.
For example:
12 x 7 = 10 x plus double the number = 84
12 x 624 = 10 x plus double the number = 7488

8. 11 Times Tables: Greater than 10.
For example:
7 x 11 = Greater than 10 = 77
150 x 11 = Greater than 10 = 1650

My artwork on space: Jacob

This is my artwork on space. As you can see it is Saturn. Saturn is the 2nd largest planet in the solar system. It has rings which are made out of rock. One side is light because the sun shines and one side is dark because the planet is blocking the sun getting on to the other side. Mr. Blackmore taught me to put more life into my artwork by using lots of colours.

I chose this planet because the yellow, red and white rings shows that it is light and hot. The red and orange shows that some of the planet is really hot. This painting shows that there is a bright side to life and a dark side to life. If you are going the right way you'll be very well. I drew the sun because it shows the silver is light and the black is dark.
