My report on Valerie Adams:Jacob


Valerie Adams

Introduction
Valerie Adams is a famous New Zealand shot putter. She has broken many records and has won many gold medals. This year at the Olympic Games in London she will make New Zealand Proud.

Valerie Kasanita Adams was born on the 6th of October 1984 in Rotorua, New Zealand. Her mother was Tongan and her father was English born. Her mother's name is Lilika Ngauamo and her fathers name is Sydney Adams. She has several brothers over 7ft tall. Her youngest brother Steven Adams plays basketball in Massachusetts, United States of America. She is also a member of the  church of Jesus Christ of the Latter-Day Saints. She is 6ft 5 and weighs 120 Kgs.


She grew up in South Auckland. When she was growing up her family couldn’t afford shoes for her She went to a high school in Mangere. Her P.E. teacher noticed she had strong forearms when she was thirteen. She was a very good basketball player. Her mother died when she was fifteen. Her mother inspired her.



She broke the record for shot put in bare feet at the junior championship. At the 2002 Commonwealth Games in Manchester she won silver for throwing a shot put at 17.73 metres. She won gold at the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne. After she won her first gold medal, she looked at the sky in memory of her mother. At the Melbourne Commonwealth Games she threw a shot put at 19.66 metres. At the Beijing Olympic Games she won gold for throwing a shot put at 20.56 metres. Her all time best is 21.24 metres. She has won 3 Gold medals, 1 silver medal and 2 bronze medals.


She married Bertrand Villie in 2005. He is a well known discus thrower from New Caledonia. She divorced him in early 2010. Her first coach was Kirsten Hellier. She is a well known javelin thrower. They met in 1998 and trained together for eleven years. Her second coach was Didier Poppe and she  fired him in 2010. Her third coach is Jean Pierre Egger and she has done very well under him.


She has worked very hard for her medals and has made New Zealand proud. She has joined the London 2012 Olympic games and we know she will make us proud. I really hope she wins a medal at the London 2012 Olympic Games.
