My special friend: Jacob S

My Special friend

My friend is special to me because he is a really close friend. He makes me feel pleasant about myself. My special friend is Teagan. He helps me when I need help and he is comfortable to be around. I made a mistake and he laughed in a way that wouldn't make me offended.

First of all Teagan is someone who shares the same humour and I can relate to him. We started playing rugby at the same time. We also have the same fears. He is afraid of heights and I am too. We have a lot in common.

Teagan makes me feel joyful when I am blue. I am never embarrassed when I am around him. He always has my back. I am always happy when I am around him.

He is my special friend because he is a family friend. Our parents have been friends for a long time and we have been close friends since I was 3 years old and he was 4 years old. Teagan is my first friend.

A special friend is important because they are trustworthy. You can rely on them. If you didn’t have a special friend you would be depressed. When you are stressed there is no one to help you and you would always be sad.

What is assessment? -Jacob

What is Assessment?

Have you ever wondered what an assessment is? The dictionary definition is the action of assessing someone or something. Assessments show the teacher what level we are at and what we need to achieve. Did you know that one hundred years ago, in the ancient times, you would wear a hat called the dunce cap to show everyone in the class that you didn’t do well in your test. Today the teachers don’t really do that to the students because they are not mean.

At PBS the assessments that we do are the e-asttle reading, writing and maths. We also do the star reading test, peters spelling and the IKAN test.

The reason why we do assessments is because it tells the teacher what we know and what we need to learn. It also says what level of understanding you are at.The teachers at PBS want us to do well in our test so that we can be successful throughout the rest of the year.

Assessments help us understand writing, reading and maths. They help us achieve the parts in our learning where we went wrong. They help us start climbing the ladder of success.

So the reason why students and teachers do assessments are so you know what you understand and to show what you to work on to shoot pass the others.

My narrative: Jacob

We used this picture to write a narrative.

Beep!!, Beep!! sounded as Steve beeped the horn while he was speeding down the highway in my favourite 4 wheel drive to go catch some fish. Steve got to the beach and paused, he gazed at an old friend/Daniel from high school. They strolled to go eat some burgers to catch up and see what is happening. He talked and talked until his friend Screamed, “LOOK!!!, your car is going into the water”. Steve watched as his car dived into the water and for a swim. Steve thought, “what did I forget to do or did someone else do it”..........

“Who did this!!, who would do this to such a great car” cried Steve. “Dude, your wife is going to kill you when she listens to what you did” whispered Daniel. Apparently he thought a person on the cruise ship shot the hand brake with a sniper rifle. He swam and swam until he broke into the ship. Daniel was alone and thought to himself, “he doesn’t know I ordered someone to push his car into the water”.

Water Safety: Jacob

This is what Teagan and I made about the water cycle. There are four main words. They are evaporation, condensation, precipitation and accumulation. We had to get information from using the teachers information. We had dictator race to see who could copy the words from the sheet the fastest, our time was 18:48. Then we had to write our own words onto this poster. The water cycle never stops, it keeps going on and on.

Miss Paton's time at the Google Teachers Academy: Jacob

Google Teachers Academy
Miss Paton flew on a plane to Chicago. She went there for the Google Teachers Academy (GTA). 60 people out 514 people were chosen. Miss Paton's group's name was team Wright and met them on Google Hangout. She got to look through the new Google glasses that are voice activated. She got a goodies bag full of a lot of cool equipment. Miss Paton learnt how to mix and mash YouTube videos. There were fun Google challenges. Miss Paton was chosen to do a challenge. The challenge was to stand on a chair and try and drop a mint mentos into a cola bottle. She got the mentos in on her first time and was so excited. She got certificates and badges at the end.

My awesome Eastern beach trip: Jacob

My awesome Eastern beach trip

On one grey cloudy Monday, Panmure Bridge School went to Eastern Beach on a huge bus for a field trip. I sat on the bus and vroom, vroom, the bus sped off around the corner to Dunkirk Road. We passed our school and some people whispered, “Bye school”. Mrs Anderson started taking photos with her camera and everyone was talking really loudly.

We finally arrived at the beach. People were saying, “It is too cold. It feels like we’re inside a freezer!”
We sat down and the principal, (Mr Johnston), spoke really loudly so we could hear him. He gave us the instructions and the rules. We got to the spot and I was like the speed of lighting to get my food out. Everyone was hungry and people felt like eating each other. Next I played soccer with my friends and it was so hard to play in such a little spot, but it was the only spot to play in with shade.

Group 1 finally finished the kayaking and it was my turn. I put on my life jacket and it was so tight so I had to breathe quick. Ms Kirkpatrick, Ms Nicole and Mr Grady taught us how to paddle on the kayaks and stay balanced. I was sauntered over and sat on a kayak. I almost fell off as I was descending in the seat but quickly acquired the new skill and of how to get balanced. I was crashing into people. The wind was trying to push me to the rocks and tip me over and feed me to the water. We played tag with the paddles and I got tagged. We had to stand up on the front or back of the kayak and two people swapped the kayaks.
“ Damn! “ my head told me. I had to swap kayaks first and my heart was jumping but........ I had survived! I sat down in the kayak. Luckily I didn’t collapse into the hungry mouth of the water that kept tried to gobble me up. After a lot of paddling we looked like we were just about to hit the rocks so we were taught how to turn. On the way back in we had a race to shore and I came fourth. We hopped or jumped off the kayak and took off our life jackets. I strolled to my bag and had a nice refreshing drink and ate my way into my lunch box.

Mr Johnston was like 111 Piha rescue when people were on the kayaks and playing in the water. When I was swimming I thought the sun was having a fight with the clouds because the sun was trying its best to give us sunshine. The waves continuously licked the sand and the sea lice appeared to be having a game of tag.  I’m fortunate they didn’t get me. After swimming I played cricket. People were whacking the ball as far as half a rugby field. My friend was tired of getting out so he sat down. Someone bowled the ball and the person who got my friend out hit it up and funnily my friend caught the ball while he was sitting down.

When the buses arrived all of us sat down and Mr Johnston told us what a great day it was. I agreed with him. We made our way over to our bus. I hopped on board and tried to go sleep but the people at the back were too noisy. It was like volcano was erupting in my head.

Back at school we walked slowly back to class and man, was I tired. I sat at my desk and felt like going to sleep. Finally the bell rang. I left the room last I think because I was too tired to even hop off my chair. I learnt masses of new kayaking skills and had a great day at the beach.

My netbook reflection 2013: Jacob

This year I have found using my netbook to be successful. I have enjoyed using my netbook because...........
I have an individual blog. I can publish work on to my blog and put pictures, presentations, graphs and drawings.  I have 2474  pageviews on my blog. Before we can put our work on the blog the teacher has to check it for any mistakes from the teacher dashboard.

Another thing that I have enjoyed is........
It allows me to be a critical thinker by commenting on other schools blogs, class blogs and peoples individual blogs. The teacher can give me on going feedback because it helps us with our writing, reading, numeracy.

The barriers in using my netbook are.........
Flash problems and connectivity issues. I always go on Maths whizz but sometimes their is flash problems where I can’t get in to it or if half of the class goes on Maths whizz before me it is slow and it takes 10 - 20 minutes to get on.

Another barrier is.........
That sometimes my netbook won’t turn on if the battery is low or somebody drops it. The screen might crack and we might forget your passwords so the teacher or someone has to reset the password or reimage the netbook with a USB stick and that gets annoying.

The interesting aspects / parts to using my netbook are.........
Using different research sites for topic like celebrations and festivals. We can do our homework online by the click of a button because we can go onto the class google site that the teacher updates. The teacher tells us what sites we can go on or if she doesn’t people just go onto the class google site and go on fun Maths sites or fun Reading sites.

Eastern Beach

My time at Eastern beach

Yahoo! We are going to Eastern beach today where the water

is as cold as ice blocks and the sun is hotter than fire. On

Monday the 27th febuary, the whole school went to the

amazing Eastern beach were there is blue water and white

clouds. I got to school and everyone was in mufti except for some people. The bell rang and every class was in lines. The bus was supposed come at 9:15. I was getting angry because the bus arrived late. The bus arrived at 9:38. We sat on the bus with room 6. Only some of room five hopped on the bus with room 6. The rest of room 5 hopped on another bus with room 7 and some parent helpers. Finally we arrived at Eastern beach. There was another school at Eastern beach. Now we are going to a shady area. Mr Johnston told us the rules when we got there. All of us had morning tea and then the other buses came. Next I played touch on the on the other volly ball court with Tevita, Henry, Kobe, Faitele, Teagan and Addnan. Tevita Addnan, and Henry was on my team. My team scored the first try. Then my team scored another try. Now more people came to play but we didn’t have enough space to play so we got some cones and played on the field. I had a quick snack before room 5 did the life jacket activity. Before we put on the life jackets, Mr Johnston showed us how to put them on. He used Quaid

for a demonstration to show us. Everyone rushed into the water when they put their life jacket on. The water was as cold as ice blocks when I hopped in. I kept on going deeper and deeper until I was flouting. Kifi and Teagan went the furtherest out. 20 Minutes later, Mr Johnston said, “life jacket people come and take your life jackets off. I was spinning then I hopped out and took my life jacket off. I had a drink and then went back into the water for a couple of minutes. I took my towel and my bag to a sunny area, put my towel down and ate some more lunch. My mum and dad went in the car and got me some Burger King. I played another game of touch. Now it is the second session of swimming, everyone went for another swim except for a little bit. I was in the water for 20 minutes and then I got changed. We waited for the bus for five minutes. We hopped on the bus then went back to school. It was the longest day of school.

My french design

I chose some of these colours because they are on the french flag. I chose the Eifel tower because it made France famous. I put a french stick on because many New Zealanders use them to make chicken rolls and use them for buns.

Working with Miss G

Yesterday I got a netbook and it was awesome. We did a countdown to turn the netbook on.  I was very excited when I got my netbook. Some people didn’t get their netbooks. We played games on it and we had a look around on it. I played around with the webcam. I played tux math, tux paint, tux typing and 3D chess. We went on the internet to do our google docs.
